A Hiking Gear Checklist for Day Hiking

A Hiking Gear Checklist for Day Hiking

I was thinking now on what should be for hikers that are only beginning on a hiking gear checklist.

I created the listing below as guide to what you should be looking when obtaining your hiking equipment together for a day 30, to acquire.

Suitable hiking trousers are a must. Waterproof is always a good idea. I like ones with air vent's in them that can be opened to allow air circulation in to keep your legs dry since your sweat is allowed to wick away in skin. I also enjoy hiking pants with bottoms that are detachable so that they can easily double up as shorts.

Hiking Fleece

A must for cooler temperatures. A good hiking fleece will keep you dry and warm under the Waterproof hiking jacket that is ideal.

Base Layers

You need to be sure you have adequate base layers. Accordingly, like your trekking trousers, you want breathability to allow perspiration wick the base layer is next to your skin. The colder it is, the more layers you need. Best to carry an additional one or two just in case.

 Gaiters

If you'll be wading through marsh, snow, water, etc.. Gaiters are useful to help keep your boots dryer and your toes.

 Hiking Hat

If it's cold once you're hiking a woolen hat is a great addition. Worn under the hood of your waterproof jacket, it will keep your head nice and toasty! Alternately, the sun is beating down and if it's blistering hot, a baseball hat or hiking hat will protect you from any harmful rays.

Hiking Gloves

These need to be waterproof, wind resistant and leaving you with some mobility in your hands for grasping, opening, etc..

Hiking Socks

Good socks are as critical as boots. It's worth getting hiking socks which complement your trekking boots or shoes to ensure maximum comfort and prevent the blister!

 Day or Technical package

You of course need something to take your extra equipment and a few basic supplies in so a cozy day pack in your back is a must.

Hiking Shoes and Boots

Of key significance when hiking. You need the right hiking boots or sneakers to the weather and climate you are hiking in. It needs to be a fit along with shoe or your boot should be broken in. It is a good idea to split them in your house, in or around the block before using these. Always wear your hiking socks breaking a hiking boot!

 Waterproof Hiking Jacket

Really depends on what climate you're hiking in but always it will rain at some stage so you want to have the right waterproof hiking coat with you. There are numerous options to choose from, many of which have detachable layers and therefore can be adapted for use all year-round.

Extra Hiking Clothing

Extra clothing is a must if you are moving in and out of different temperatures and weather which can happen very easily as you ascend up a mountain. Always good to have a little more than less I believe.

This list is not exhaustive but it does list out a few of the key things that you should be carrying on your day increase with you. Being as prepared as possible can make certain you have enjoyable and comfortable a hike.
